Resting in Anticipation

Resting in Anticipation

I have been told that there
Will be good times.
That the time for struggle has passed.
And the time to rest in now.
All will be taken care of.
Good things will come.

So if you please, my Dear,
Have tea with me and
Let us enjoy with confidence
And without cruel reserve
The anticipating of our peace.

Audio and Discussion-

This is an older poem in my collection.  However, I thought that we could use some words of hope these days.  Some people will tell you that we are going to hell in a hand basket...and an over heated hand basket at that.

I cannot disagree that there is a lot of work we humans need to do to clean up the messes we have made and to rise to a higher lever of existence.  But that work actually may be happening and we just don't pay attention to it.  For example, a major religion has just elected Pope Francis, and he seems to be shaking up the Catholic church quite a bit.  We have very strong women leaders in the world who are turning things around.  Human rights is something that is expected and demanded.  World leaders have met and will meet again this spring to address the human caused climate threat to the earth.

Bill Gates, will give you nine reasons why the world is getting better.  This is worth looking at.  http://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/12-ways-the-world-is-better-than-ever-according-to-bill-and#.hqyRKyVeVn  Mr. Gates' reasons are very compelling.

Closer to home, I know several mothers whose grown children are finally coming around to making good and sound decisions for their lives.  (That is a huge deal for a mother!)  Look around your own back yard, so to speak.  Are there some things that are better?  I do hope so.  We are so very inundated with bad news 24 hours a day, that it is difficult to see the good.  I think it is out there, just beyond the morning sky.  It is coming with the new day.  skp

The Comforts of Home

PictureSusan and editor, Louie.
If Oprah can show her face with no make-up in front of the camera, then by golly, so can I!  This is me, Susan Patterson, trying to catch up on some email correspondence.  I am in our breakfast room.  This room also doubles as a kitty room, meaning it is where our 3 + cats sleep.  On my lap is the neighbor's cat, Louie.

Louie and his brother, Dewey, spend quite a bit of time at our house. At any given moment we have 3 - 5 orange cats wanting something or another.   It is extremely difficult to have a lap-free moment at our house.  Nevertheless, every animal should have a good and safe place to live.

Christmas is Christ time.
God is with us.
Emmanuel.

That the Spirit is here
To guide and to help
Is clear to me and to you.

Since this is so, let us not be troubled.
Nor be anxious, nor be fretful.
Ever.

Let go of worry. Have Christmas Tea.
Remember that God is with us.
Gloria.

Gloria.
Hallelujah.
And Hallelujah again.

Audio and Discussion-

Too much Christianity?  Too much spirituality?  So sorry, I mean no offense.  However, it is certainly worth the thought that we need not live with fear and worry.  That's a pretty tough challenge for most of us.

As humans, we have created a world that is damaged and hurting, and we live with that damage and hurt.  My Christmas wish then is we learn to lean on the spiritual side of our humanity.  Let the Spirit that lives within all of us guide and comfort us.  Let us begin heal the Earth and ourselves.  Merry Christmas.   skp

Audio and Discussion-

Tea in the Warmth of Winter

Come with me into my fantasy of winter
Where snow falls softly and all is silent,
Where each and every creature has a
Warm place without fear of cold or death.

Come with me into my fantasy
Where we will have tea in my parlour and
Savour each quiet moment of peace
And revel in our own little world of Grace.

Susan Patterson   2003

Yes, this is a fantasy for sure!  Escapism from a world that is tormented  with strife, hatred and fear.  Even in our own wealthy country we know scarcity and need.  But at least we are not fantasizing about killing people en mass.  At least we do not have Christmas raids where we go out and rape, pillage and burn.  If those atrocities happened in our thousands years of being here, then shame on us.  We humans are better than that, of course.  The reason we know we are better is that we try at Christmas.  We pray, speak and work for peace and love.  Oh, I know, some would say that the effort we make at Christmas for peace and love is a sham.  Maybe it is for some.   But, it's better than making an effort for war and hatred at Christmas.    skp

Earlene Grey - A Literary Company

Picture
Who is this Earlene Grey, anyway?  Earlene Grey is the name of the company that publishes books written by Susan Patterson.  Clear as mud?  Alright, let's go back a bit.

When Susan Patterson first started writing, she didn't want anyone to know what she was doing.  Crazy, yes.  Yet, Susan Patterson took the pen name of Earlene Grey.  It was a play on the name of Earl Grey tea, you see.
She wrote a lot of poetry with references to tea.  Clever?  Not so much.

Eventually Miz Grey wrote less and less tea poetry.  Eventually Miz Grey realized that a pen name was not necessary.  So, Susan Patterson wrote under her own name.  Finally.

Still, the name of the company that produces the books is Earlene Grey.   Kinda like Helena Rubenstein or Coco Channel or Estee Lauder.    It's better than Poems R Us, isn't it?

Surely It Is

Surely, It Is

It is Christ Mass time.
We throw rocks and worse.

Thousands of suns and moons
We have stood on this Earth.

Thousands of years to learn,
Yet still we kill and worse.

Is it not time?

Is it not time that we
Listen and hear
A higher call?

Is it not time that we
Find a better path?

That we speak
Even a civil tongue?

Some have already begun.
Is it not time
For all?

Discussion-

This is a pretty simple piece.  Yet, the reality of our world is that the simple gets very complicated.  Once the complications set in, it can take thousands of years to unravel.

We humans are all so different.  But for the most part, the differences are in our minds.  How we view women, children, water, even cows can vary substantially across the continents.  And further, most of what we think is that which we have made up over the millennia.

What is going to make a difference in clear rational thinking and for all of us to get along is for everyone to have enough water, food, housing, medical care and education.   Getting there is the trick.  skp
