'They call to mind the important, forgetting what is hurtful or useless."

Ageless Impressions

He wants to remember
What she is like and
How his hand feels on her body.
It has been there countless times before.
The imprint of this ritual
On his mind is deep.

His hand starts at the
Side of her chest,
Slides its way down and
Dips into the waist,
Up at the hip
And down to the thigh.

They call to mind the important,
Forgetting what is hurtful or useless.
Changes in her do not matter
Because he pictures her young.
She knew his strength and sees it still.
Down the side, in at the waist,
Up at the hip and down to the thigh.

She wants to remember what
His hand feels like on her body.
It’s been there countless times before.
The imprint is deep in her mind.
Down the side, in the waist,
Up the hip and down the thigh.

A Clear and Sustainable Appreciation of Reality

"Was is not real. It has passed in the night."

A Clear and Sustainable
Appreciation of Reality

Was is not real.
It passed in the night and
Transformed itself into
That which is now.

Now is what we have.
It has grown from many
Nights of passings,
From fading away to
Transfiguration, to
Existence.

It has become what we know
And what we can trust.
It has become
Our everlasting.
That is what our love is,
That is what our life is,
Not was.

This poem presents considerations of the here and now.   If I were to say anymore, it would influence the reader's thoughts.  Goodness, I wouldn't want to do that.  Truly.  😊  skp

The Genesis of Change

She had attended to those who did not listen.

The Genesis of Change

She was about done.

Exhausted and laid low,
She had given so much.
She had let her blood
Into the open and waiting
Veins of the needy, and
Sometimes the greedy--
For years.

She had done as
The powerless before,
Thinking there was
Not a better choice.

She had attended to those
Who did not know
Her lot in life.
Not having recognized
Her capacity
Or faculty,
They did not listen.

But she guessed.
Probably she knew.
All she had to do
Was to make a move.
Something. Anything.
Manifest.  Make it start.
And, by God,
To everyone’s amazement,
It did.

I was challenged by what type of image to put with this poem.  I have been advised not to put pictures in The Causerie, and I can see why.  This poem has so very many interpretations, if I give the reader an image, then it may limit what the reader's understanding of the poem would be.  There were several pictures to choose from,  I finally  decided on a woman who was self assured.  skp

☛    This poem can be found on page 6 of Unnoticed Moments, by Susan Patterson.

Unnoticed Moments
is a collection of contemporary poetry from Ms. Patterson spanning the years 2010 - 2014.  It has been said, "Ms. Patterson captures that which would seem ordinary, if not mundane, and transmutes it into global meaning. She writes about the frailties of humanity, yet offers hope. She writes about daily life and almost dares the reader to act upon the truths that are in the each soul."  You may also enjoy the CD version of Unnoticed Moments.

The History, Facts and Poetry of Tea

Picture

A tea talk by Susan Patterson is a presentation that will not soon be forgotten.  In her tea talk, Mrs. Patterson will offer a history of tea, interesting and usable tea facts and of course, her mesmerizing world famous poetry.  If you think that your group or club won’t enjoy tea and talk, then you will be mistaken.  😄

You will find Susan's work a compilation of uplifting wisdom concealed in simplicity.  She is intelligent, witty and marvelously ordinary all in the same package.  It has been said, “She is a modern voice in the heritage of Emily Dickinson.”

Ah, remember the good old days when Susan Patterson dressed for tea?  The picture left was taken in Henderson, Nevada many years ago.

Susan is scheduling for the fall and winter presentations now.  Books may be included in the price of the speaking fee.  If you would like Susan Patterson to give a talk at your event this next season, email, Susan@EarleneGrey.com

Heritage:  Men From an Unknown Memory

Heritage:
Men From an Unknown Memory

I’ve seen pictures of them,
The men of my family.
Though I’ve never met most, they are part
Of me.  I am their resolve.

My men were strong and solid.
They swaggered a little.
They tilted their hats to one side
And leaned against trucks.
They laughed and dreamed.  Some
Were reckless to the point of sin.

They held themselves upright,
Though life would blow to bow them down.
Proud of their ability and construct,
They worked with wood and
With machines, with tools and with dirt.

Insightful craftsmen and engineers.
I know their structures.
Silent musicians of my past.
I hear their songs.

Before I was born.
My men gave me life and strength.
Before I was born,
I accepted their endowments,
Both good and bad,
Fine and faulty.
Forming my life with their
Perseverance,
I am their labor.

Audio and Author Comment-

On this Labor Day, I could not help but post this poem.  It is one of my favorites.  I, like most of you, stand on the shoulders of parents and grandparents.  My family is traced back to 1642 in Cornwall, England.   There are hundreds of names in the family tree.  They all sound familiar to me.  There is no royalty, no fame.  As far as I can tell, most of my ancestors were ordinary workers in one ordinary occupation or another.  Education was not evident, wealth was not apparent.  But, as the poem says, I stand on their shoulders.  I'm proud to do so.  skp
