For Those Who Are
Afraid of Their Dark
I shall not be frightened
By the night that comes
Before every dawn.
The darkness, which fills
The corners,
Swallows up the
Spaces and reaches
From room to room;
The darkness, which creeps
Along hour by hour
Around the house
And lingers at the door;
That darkness of night
Shall not be the bane
Of my existence.
The veil that protects me
From the unseen evil
And the unclear
Danger, shall not
Be rent in twain.
There is light just around
The corner. Just past the
Window. Just within
My reach.

In the current series, New Beginnings, I will talk about various ways to start anew. This week, I invite the reader to start over, letting go of a fear he or she may have. Fear is easy to hang on to. It can be addictive. But, letting go can be ever so much better and can be very freeing.
In this poem, the dark is a metaphor for fear, fear of any type. It creeps around and lingers in and around a person. But there always is light, within reach, sometimes closer than one thinks.
Art for a New Beginning-
The first artist that I would like to introduce to you is Melissa Gannon. I have several pieces of her work and they are all quite delightful. Melissa's paintings, with saturated color, are uniquely engaging and always makes the viewer feel happy and hopeful. To be sure, we all need that in our lives!
To quote Melissa, "My work is impressionistic, spontaneous creation using jewel tone colors and descriptive brush work resulting in a painting that you can not only see but FEEL." I invite you to go to her website and see what you think. www.MelissaGannon.com skp
