The Unlikely Match

 The Unlikely Match

She needed an equal.
The one she had wasn’t working.
So, the harness loosened and
A new one came along.
She strove to be his.
He grew to be hers.

They matured at uneven paces,
Learning the important
To keep the balance;
Waiting for the other
To catch up or to slow down;
Not always understanding the what,
Or the how, but willing to
See the through.

They’re equals now, together
At the same time.
Each taking his turn at the lead.
Each watching the other with care.
Satisfied with the yoke that has no load.

Another love story here.  Maybe someday I will  publish a book of Susan Patterson love poems. 😉

There are many types of loves in our lives.  Some come quickly and just about knock us over.  Others take longer to realize and make us stronger.  No matter, all of our loves are important and need to be appreciated.    skp

The poem, The Unlikely Match, is available in my book, Unnoticed Moments.  The book is available at  http://www.earlenegrey.com/unnoticed-moments.html

A Literary Company Comes to Life

PictureJames and Susan Patterson celebrating an anniversary as Canada whizzes by.
The following is a repeat of an earlier article.  Readers are asking...

Who is this Earlene Grey, anyway?  Earlene Grey is the name of the company which publishes books written by Susan Patterson.  Clear as mud?  Alright, let's go back a bit.

When Susan Patterson first started writing, she didn't want anyone to know what she was doing.  Crazy, yes.  Still and all, Susan Patterson took the pen name of Earlene Grey.  It was a play on the name of Earl Grey tea, you see.
She wrote a lot of poetry with references to tea.  Clever?  Not so much.

Eventually Ms. Grey wrote less and less tea poetry.  And, eventually Ms. Grey realized that a pen name was not necessary.  So, Susan Patterson wrote under her own name.  Finally.

However, the name of the company that produces the books readers have discovered and loved, is Earlene Grey, LLC.   Kinda like Helena Rubenstein or Coco Channel or Estee Lauder.    It's a better name than Poems R Us, isn't it?

It's Not Hello for Now, It's Not Good-bye Forever

Reality is not always as we see it. This is a view of Lake Louise, in Alberta, Canada, with what one might think is a mountain under the water. The water is so clear that the mountain is perfectly reflected.

It’s Not Hello For Now,
It’s Not Good-bye Forever

There’s a gang that I hang out with,
Eon after eon.
Generally I know that I know
One or more of the crew,
Sometimes I have to grow
Into the memory of knowing.

In one life, I might be a mother,
The next time a wife.
Or, I could be a forbidden lover,
A haunting one-time friend,
Or maybe even a clergyman.

We fuss and fight.
Pet and love.
Learn and forget,
Then try to learn again.

Revolving around each other,
Evolving because of each other,
We’re our very own cosmos
Whirling through a space of mortality,
Our gravity pulling each other along.

See ya’ later alligator,
After a while crocodile.

I was hesitant to put this poem in The Causerie.  It has just been aired on Radio Kidderminster.  However it seems appropriate since my good husband, James, and I have just returned from a twelve-day rail journey across Canada.  What was so important in our small world in Oregon City seemed different when we were looking at it through the prism of the stunning geographical beauty of the Rocky Mountains and vast mid-west Canadian plains.  It's always good to get a different perspective now and then.  skp

I'm Baaaack!

Greetings friends and readers!

Did you miss me?  A Causerie has not been posted for weeks and you might be poetry starved. Wait no more.   As I mentioned earlier, James and I have been traveling.  So, you will be seeing pictures for the next several postings of our travels.  I hope that you enjoy them.   Canada in the autumn is gorgeous.  Almost two weeks of train travel was not tiring, but restorative.  I highly recommend it.  Please let me know if you have questions, or want pictures.

Welcome to Phil, Ken and Elaine, Michael and Yilin, Dan and Suzanne, and Jesmond to our Causerie  discussion group.  If I missed your name, please email and let me know.  skp

It's great to be back!  Till next week, happy days to you!    skp
