Not a Total Loss

Looking out into the distance, we can see even more beauty. Big pictures are often the most impressive.

Not a Total Loss

Each of us has the ability
To help Humanity grow.
This is true because
Every once in a while
We do things right.

Every once in a while
We take in a stray.
Love the wretched.
Care for the weak.
Give a little grace.

Every once in awhile,
We bend a bit lower
To raise the bar
Just a little higher.

Every once in awhile,
We get things right.

This is one of my favorite poems.  It is big picture thinking while looking at the details.  We often see our lives as a myriad of little details, forgetting that all those pieces of our lives just may build upon each other and make a big difference for humanity.   We just may not realize it.  skp

Marilena

Shade plants are sometimes the most beautiful and interesting. Here the rhododendron is among Oregon's favorites.
Marilena

She grew in the shadows,
This plain beauty,
A flower that was
Most likely ready to blossom.

Or maybe she had already opened up,
And no one noticed.  But then
It was difficult to get bright blooms
In the dimness where she was rooted.

Either way, she
Was only
Discovered
When a person of discernment
Ventured down the road
Where she lived and
Noticed the
Glow leaking
From the shadows,
Out of the darkness
Of her cave.

It was then that
Marilena was lifted
Out.

Yew Tree House
Yew Tree House

This lovely hillside house over looks the canal running through Kinver in England.
Built in 1604 this old beauty has had many owners and inhabitants.  Currently it is the home of Chris Byrd and Edmund Preston...and Radio Kinver.  Yes, that is right, the podcast you have grown to love started right here in this house.

James and Susan Patterson and Harold and Jolyn Plough visited the house and stayed there a few days last year during their time in the United Kingdom.

The current residents will soon be moving, but we will never forget Yew Tree House, the home of Radio Kinver.  You can hear a delightful variety of music and verse weekly, including Susan Patterson reading her works each week on Radio Kinver.  Download and listen to Radio Kinver at radiokinver.co.uk

The trillium is another shade plant that sprouts its delicate beauty each spring. Trilliums are special and not all that common. It is said that if you pick a blossom, it will not bloom again for seven years. We don't pick ours.

And Thus, Shrinking Violets Arise

Violets in springtime are characteristically beautiful in their unassuming way.

Just a little light thing…

And Thus, Shrinking Violets Arise

Ah, Spring, so short a visit, you give us

You don’t know whether to come or go.

You shine on us for a moment,
Your smile of brightness,

Then cry with Winter’s rain and

Shyly run under her clouded skirts.

Now, we beg you,
Come back to us until your baited sister,
Summer, fully warms us with her breath

And makes us to forgive

Your teasing and tiring timidness.

I like to think this poem is in salute to the works of William Wordsworth, the English poet, who wrote quite sentimentally about nature.  Well, of course, Mr. Wordsworth was much more than that, and  I would not dare to emulate him.  It would be impossible.  Besides, there is generally more cynicism in my poetry.   Be that as it may, kind reader,  I invite you to enjoy this light springtime  poem.  skp

A Supposition of What Music Will Be Like in Heaven

Heaven is somewhere. Maybe it is not here, but above the clouds is a pretty cool place to look for it.

A Supposition of What Music Will be Like in Heaven

I do not disparage the masters of our ages,
But it will not be like their childish efforts.
It will not be made from a reed in a pipe,

Nor a hammer hitting strings,
Nor a hand on a drum.
It will be made by the very stars themselves,
Whirling at so many different speeds
That the sounds of their movements
Will be the orchestra of Heaven.
And that orchestra will have such power as to
Shake all the firmaments and move all the winds.

And then of course there will be the choir.
There will be tens of thousands of enthusiastic voices.
Pitch perfect.
And those will just be the tenors.
There will be thousands more, each with their own part,
Blending together a composition of magnificence.
The music will be staggering, beyond belief.
Far greater than we have ever heard or could ever imagine.

It will be so wondrous that all the worlds,
All of life will stop to listen.

We will join our voices too.
We will toss our heads back and simply sing.
And it will be good.
We will be part of that glorious chorus.
And it will be very good.
I can hardly wait to hear that music.
To feel the excellence.
To breathe the beauty.
To stand in the wonder of it all.
Oh, how astounding it will be!

This poem is just one woman's opinion.  Then again, it might be a collective opinion.  The premise is pretty universal.  But what if it were really true?  What if we will only had to feel and the stunning music will be inside of us?  What if colors were more than we have ever seen here on earth, and all we had to do was to feel their brightness?  What if heaven were real?  How would we be then?  skp
