Why Can't It Be Love?

'My heart beats quickly when we are about to meet.'

Why Can’t It Be Love?

Could it be that I am simply taken
By your charming ways?

I think about you when I rise in the
Morning and when I lay down at night.
Some would say
I am enamored with you.

I fantasize and have visions
About us being together.
Others would say
I am infatuated with you.

My heart beats quickly
When we are about to meet.
My breath is short.
I count the days until
We will meet again.
Besotted, for sure.

There are the times when
I dream of us making love
For hours. Can it be
That I am obsessed with you?

Surely, it can’t be love.

I remember years and years ago, sitting across the table from someone I was infatuated with and thinking, why can't it be love.  Ah, the questions and confusions of young love.  Isn't it grand when love comes into our life?  Isn't it more grand when we appreciate it and when the love stays?   It can come to us in a variety of ways and times in our lives.  It is never far if we want it.  Here's to enjoying the loves in our lives.

This poem is the last in the 'Naughties and Nicities' series for February.  Next month we will go on to poetry subjects other than love.  I hope that you have enjoyed our celebration of the Valentine season.    skp

It will be slightly revised, but in the same perfect small size as the original version, and with new art work and new bright, light colors.  Don't worry, you will find wonderful poetry revealing the elegant wit and wisdom encapsulated in all of the Earlene Grey works.

We hope to have the book available in April, just in time for spring celebrations.   Watch for announcements and special pricing.

Be That as it May

Celebrate the loves of your life.

Be That As It May

She buttons her shirts wrong,
Or worse yet, she puts them
On inside out and then she is
Still a button or two off.

She wears her shoes on the
Wrong feet and doesn’t notice.
Her hair sticks out oddly
And she doesn’t seem to mind.

However, she cleans up quite well,
And many people believe her to be
Beautifully elegant all of the time.
(Oh, the adoration of the clueless.)

He sees her as she truly is,
Whatever that may be,
A goddess or a fool.

Yes, you’ve got it,
He loves her all the same,
If not all the more.

I've received several interpretations of this poem.  They are all quite valid.  But, the poem is above all, still a love story, and we all know that there are many types of love stories.  Celebrate the loves of your life often.  Happy Valentines day!  skp

Tom and Irma-Chronicles of the 1950's
is a collection of stories about growing up in the 1950's in a small town in Oregon.  But more than that, it is the love story of a husband and wife and of a small family struggling to make a better life.

This small book, a favored volume in the Earlene Grey library, is available at www.EarleneGrey.com

An Answer to Unrequited Love

This scene has all the makings of an afternoon delight.

An Answer to Unrequited Love

If your beloved prefers to sleep
Other than in the all-together,

If your darling does not care
For an afternoon delight,

If your dearest cannot
Canoodle with abandon,

If your partner does
Not dance,

Then consider
An alternative--

A paramour
Who does.

It is Valentine's season here in the United States.  Hearts and flowers are every where.  There is even a very large plastic blow up heart on my neighbor's front lawn, for heaven's sake!  These days everyone can celebrate Valentine's Day...each in his or her own way.   Best wishes in celebrating the many and various loves in your life.  skp

Filling in the Blanks

Opening the door of this house to invite some one inside must be a great pleasure, indeed.

Filling in the Blanks

He opened the door
And there she was,
A cleaning lady in disguise--
Or a goddess incognito.

He wasn’t sure because
She couldn’t speak.
Her life before had
Made her dumb.
Her life after, had not yet
Arrived.

So, in the middle they met.
He, with his door almost closed;
She, with a space to clean and
A place to shine.

It’s been awhile.
He trusts now,
Goes into town and greets
The people he passes
On the streets.

She cleans the windows,
Lights the lamps
And makes the bed.
In the early evening, they
Talk about the day.

In the spirit of Valentine's season, I will continue to post love poems...at least for awhile.  We don't know too much about the couple in the poem, except that they filled in the blanks in each others lives.  The reader can create his or her own story behind the poem.  Did she knock on the door of a great house or a small bungalow.  Did he want anyone at his door at all?  It doesn't matter, does it?  skp
