How do I write?
In bursts and bunches,
Not in steady streams of
Inspiration, not at certain times,
But in bits of brilliance and
Insight that come in the night,
From wisdom not my own.
Never do I write with rules or discipline
For savvy sophisticates or
For the modern or learned crowd.
No, that’s not the poetry meant for me.
I write what comes in the night.

As most of you know, I did not plan on becoming a poet. It was never my dream or my bliss. I started writing what came to me. I still do. I walk my own path. It is not with the literary societies that I mingle. It is not the poetry clubs that I join. Those groups have my respect, but it seems that a solitary writing path is best for me and my audiences.
My spelling and grammar is correct. The words are chosen with care. I edit for days, weeks and sometimes months. My writing is usually critiqued by a close group of wise and knowledgeable people who are honest with me. I work a piece of writing till the hair stands up on the back of my neck, like a dog who is alerted to something important, if not dangerous. Then I know I am finished with it. Then I send it out. skp
