Every Love Is Its Own Definition
They were smoking cigarettes and
Drinking Glenfiddich straight up,
Out in the open on the veranda.
Even though it was dangerous,
They didn’t care.
Danger was their choice.
Both belonged to others.
But they met
Openly,
Broadcasting their
Love, unconsciously
Waiting to be found out,
Almost daring to be found out.
Even so, if they were discovered,
Their lives would change dramatically,
If not end entirely.
Safety was their sacrifice.
It was worth it.
Their passion, though
Not sweet, was addictive.
To them, ordinary love
Was the very definition
Of travesty.
